Blob architecture: Peek und Cloppenburg, Köln
Following up Christian’s mention of the new Peek&Cloppenburg building in Cologne, I went there today and took a couple of photos:

The building is not open to the public yet. It looks rather impressive, but doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the architecture – but I guess that is one of the points of blob architecture: Designing a building that does not fit in, but provides a welcome relief from the usual straight-angled city architecture.

…Beim Betrachten dieser Fotos wird mir gerade klar, das ich schon seit Jahren nicht mehr in der Kölner Innenstadt war; ich kenne an dieser Stelle nur eine Baustelle (ohne eine eizige Glasscheibe). Btw. gab’s da nicht ein längeren Baustop? (wg. statischer Probleme ;-), IIRC)

Ich für meinen Teil bin allerdings ehrlich gesagt etwas enttäuscht von der gebauten Wirklichkeit; hab’ schon vor einigen Jahren (!) Modellfotos gesehen, und danach hatte ich mir mehr versprochen… naja, solche “NurGlasHüllenBauten” sehen erfahrungsgemäß im Modell meistens besser aus als später in Echt ;-)
…Aber jedenfalls kann man sich in Köln jetzt sagen, nach einem Gebäude vom Reichstags-"Stararchitekten” Norman Foster (Gerling-Konzern, Friesenplatz) nun auch eines vom Centre Pompidou-Stararchitekten Renzo Piano zu haben…
