Studies
I graduated in December 2005 with a diploma in computer science and computational
linguistics (minor) from Rheinische
Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.
I previously studied at the Universität des Saarlandes
in Saarbrücken, before receiving my Vordiplom
(intermediate diploma) and moving to Bonn in late 2002.
From May 6th to November 2nd 2005, I wrote my diploma thesis on the
topic of "Social Information Retrieval" at the working group for information
retrieval, Institut für
Informatik III, Bonn
University. My advisors were Prof. Dr. A. B. Cremers
and Dipl. Inform. Melanie Gnasa.
In the course of my studies, I have given the following talks at
university seminars and conferences:
- Beyond the Web: Retrieval in Social Information
Spaces
given on April 10th 2006 at the 28th European Conference on
Information Retrieval (ECIR 2006), Imperial College, London.
(slides)
- Social Information Retrieval
a presentation of my
diploma thesis, given (in two parts) at the seminar for diploma and
doctoral students at the Institut für
Informatik III, November 2005 and January 2006.
(slides)
- Kern-Methoden zur
Extraktion von Informationen
given at the Hauptseminar
Information Extraction at the Institut für Kommunikationsforschung
und Phonetik, February 2005.
(slides, handout)
- Wissensentdeckung in Datenbanken
report on a practical
course on kernel functions on sets of vectors, with applications in
drug screening. Held at the working group for machine
learning and data mining, Institut für Informatik III,
and at the Fraunhofer
Institute for autonomous intelligent systems, September 2004.
(abridged report, slides)
- Similarity Thesauri and Cross-Language Retrieval
given
at the Hauptseminar Text Mining, Institut für Informatik
III, in May 2004.
(slides, handout, code)
- Frames, Scripts
given at the Hauptseminar
Linguistische Wissensformate at the Institut für Kommunikationsforschung
und Phonetik, November 2003.
(slides, handout)
- Emergence in Artificial Life
given at the Origami at the Bauhaus symposium at Bauhaus Dessau,
August 2003.
(slides)
- Logik-Programmierung und Negation
given at the
Hauptseminar Maschinelles Beweisen, Lehrstuhl Prof. Christel
Baier, at the Universität Bonn, July 2003.
(slides, handout)
- David N. Chin: Intelligent User Interfaces as Agents
(1991)
